. >>> now some virginia nonprofits are getting a boost they really didn't anticipate. fox 5's beth parker tells us it's coming from an unexpected place. >> reporter: jerry mcclard is days from turning 65 putting his life in order, giving some money to charity. in fact, there are places -- they're places he thinks saved his life. >> if i hadn't lived here, i might not be talking to you today. >> reporter: jerry is homeless. since february of 2002 he's lived here at the winchester rescue mission. jerry does the laundry and answers the phone. he's saved up money from his social security checks. now he's donating $1,000 to the mission, $1,000 to the nonprofit community coalition action project and $500 to a free clinic. >> he had the opportunity, could he have done whatever he wanted with -- he could have done whatever he wanted with that, but his heart told him to give it where it's most needed. >> reporter: some of the money jerry donated will go to this program. the idea is for men who come to the mission and need help to be able to come here to this warehouse and learn a trade. >> just gi
to be justified. >>> a speed bump may be the cause of a murder and home invasion in springfield, virginia. stephen carr convinced officials to put in a speed bump in front of his home on field master drive. his neighbor david patton was reportedly upset about the speed bump. police say patton broke into carr's home sunday night, tied up carr and his girl friend. investigators believe patton shot carr when he tried to get free. when carr's roommate came home, police say patton chased him. the girl friend ran upstairs and called 911. neighbors are stunned. >> it's really sad. it's really unfortunate to think, you know, people can fly off the handle that much over just a speed bump, they could be that bad. >> police tell us patton and carr got into an altercation back in june and were supposed to go to court thursday. patton is now charged with murder. >>> d.c. police are looking for the person who shot an armored car guard today outside the popeye's and malcomb x avenue southeast. the suspect walked up to the armored car, shot the guard getting out and took off without any cash. the guard was shot i
